I like to smell good: My Top 5 Colognes
Over the many posts I've made over the past couple years...well it hasn't been THAT many but out of the few I've made I've never talked about something that deserves a write up.
Your scent
Usually men don't talk about how they smell, or do they usually care. Sure, some guys toss on the dreadful alcohol and cheap musk of Axe and call it a day. However, some men, like myself have a more refined nose, more cultured receptors. We prefer scents that not only please but let others know:
"Hey, I'm a man who knows how to take care of himself. I'm a leader and I'm strong, yet subtle. It only takes a whiff of me to know I'm the man."
So let me present to you the top 5 scents I not only think you'll like but so will the ladies.
5)
Light Blue by Dolce and Gabanna
1.7 oz Eau de Toilette Spray : $60
3.3 oz Eau de Toilette Spray: $82
(As listed on Sephora)
A very everyday scent. It's light and very citrus filled. Goes on sweet and tangy but lingers with a woody after scent that gives a strong impression without being harsh and over bearing.
4)
Acqua Di Gio Pour Homme by Giorgio Armani
3.4 oz Eau de Toilette Spray: $70
(As listed on Sephora)
A classic scent. Armani got it right with Acqua Di Gio. It splashes on your skin with a light, watery scent that gives a clean smell. As the day goes on it melds with your body's natural chemistry and creates a woody, fruity and herbal tone that shows off your masculinity. It's a scent ladies will lay on your neck just to indulge in for hours.
3)
Himalaya by Creed
4 oz bottle: $124 (various listings)
"This shit right here nigga...this shit right HERE NIGGA!"
Ahem...I mean this cologne is NOT everday. This cologne is NOT for dinner at Mel's or Jack in the Box. You do NOT wear this when taking a woman to get a Big Bell Value meal at Taco Bell (Mike). No sir, this cologne is for a night on the town. When you put on fine pair of slacks or designer jeans. A button up shirt with a tie and a blazer or sports coat of some kind. A nice pair of loafers and wearing your GOOD Watch (Seiko Premier Kinetic Perpetual or Baume & Mercier Classima).
This scents fall on you with class. Starting very light and windy and then settles to a scent that will make people say "This nigga right here..." I mean, "This man is of class and distinction!" It doesn't last very long but at the price of 124 a 4 oz bottle, you'll know when and when not to use it.
2)
L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme by Issey Miyake
2.5 oz Eau de Toilette Spray: $65
4.2 oz Eau de Toilette Spray: $77
(As listed on Sephora)
I was first intro'd to this scent a little over a year ago and I must say I've grown to like it. Issey Miyake's scent is unmistakable. It's a light scent going on (see a pattern here?) very sea breeze-ish going on and then settles to this robust and spicy scent that will have even the most timid of women clawing at your neck. It's a very potent scent if applied to heavily. So a walk in mist application is advised.
1)
I AM KING by Sean John
1.7 oz Eau de Toilette Spray: $57
3.4 oz Eau de Toilette Spray : $78
Say what you will about Diddy. Call him a career ender, thief, sneaky underhanded bastard, cocky or just a douche but there is NO denying that he has made a big impact in fragrance market with "Unforgivable". So, be it was only fitting that he double up with "I am King", his new fragrance. Which is the best scent I've applied to my skin since I've began to wear cologne.
I am King sprays on light and fruity. With the zest of oranges and berries. Also it hits you with an alluring and almost intoxication key lime and champagne tone that, quite frankly, I've yet to encounter. After an hour or two of wearing it settles to a warming and welcoming mossy and woody undertone that allures and distracts but not in a bad way. In the way a beautiful women in a classy dress struts by with pose and purpose or the way a Bentley coupe creeps to a halt at a stop light, perfectly detailed and maintained. It just feels oh so right. I get complimented all the time by my wife for this scent and it drives he wild. The only downside is the price is a bit up there but it's worth every penny and drop.
So there you go, the 5 best scents I own and have used. There are a myriad of other scents out there I haven't tried and I will. You should to, there is nothing better than a good smelling man, ask any woman. It brings everything together. So go out there, try some scents out. Find one that fits you, hopefully this post will steer you in the right direction.

Backtrack: Ooh Ooh - De La Soul ft. RedMan
De La hit us with that good mainstream hip hop with this jam and even tossed Red Man on the track.
Notice Dave Chappelle as the bouncer at the beginning.

Backtrack: Jurassic 5 - Quality Control
In the summer of 1999 I was going from 7th grade to 8th and I just started hanging out with my cousins in South Central LA. Interestingly enough their father was Akil from Jurassic 5. While I was still a mainstream head and that summer Akil bought me a backpack and I've kept the straps on tight ever since.
Their 2nd album Quality Control was hip hop in raw form. They had harmony, great lyrics, word play and a positive message. They had been regarded in the underground as one of the best groups on the scene. The album's title song was very well received and the album did well in sales for a group that wasn't mainstream. I also had a small part in the video but it's not noticeable with out stopping it...anyway this is a classic jam, let's backtrack!
