Proud of the Yanks

Well the wild ride that was the World Cup in South Africa for the USA is over. It was brought to a rather abbrupt halt by the Ghana(Ria) National Team. A goal in extra time put it away for us but it's not all tears and heartbreak.

The USMNT (United States Mens National Team) played some of most exciting soccer I've seen. They pulled wins and comebacks out of thin air when people wrote them off, earning the nickname during the tournament as the "Come Back Kings". Beating dodegy officiating from a certain Malian referrer and another questionable call that took a goal away from Clint "Don't Tread on Me" Dempsey.

We have much to work on in terms of defense and finishing but our team played well and I couldn't be more proud of them.

USA...USA.

How does our ass taste Group C?

In the 91st minute of the USA v ALG game, Landon Donovan puts in a perfect gimmie goal to clinch Group C of the World Cup with a 1 - 0 victory. Ending up in 1st place, above In-ger-land. So, I pose this question: How does our ass taste group C? We'll see you next week, Serbia!

Justin Bieber...

I don't get the big deal about him. And by that I mean all the people making a big deal out of his popularity and always commenting on how terrible the state of music is today. His music isn't even bad, just boring and predictable.

But it's meant for kids. Do you expect the songs on disney shows to have depth? Of course not. You shouldn't expect such from a 16 year old.

So there you have it.

This sums up my weekend in Vegas.

Deview - Distant Relatives by Nas and Damian Marley

Listening to this album for the past few days, I will say that Damien Marley and Nas make a great duo. This album is full of great beats and had a message that came off self righteous initially, but taking time to actually delve into the lyrics and overall feel and background of the two artists you really start to feel their words and message. It takes a look at Africa's problems and issues with their government and social issues. At a time of the World Cup taking place in South Africa it takes the harsh and realistic look, some people are still ignorant to the massive and never ending struggle of the great continent.

Nas delivers some great lines and probably one of my favorite ending verses he spit on the end of "Strong Will Survive" talking about his divorce, alimony, messing with ball players wives and him wondering if his ex-wife did the same to him. The problem that some of his verses suffer from is the preaching. But this is Nas we're talking about...

Damian Marley production skills and Jamaican style shines in perfect harmony with African tribal drums in this album. Tribal War ft. K'naan is a prefect example of that. While his message still mirrors that of Welcome to Jamrock album it's still a breath of fresh air to contrast Nas' style.

I won't toss into the general pool of "classic albums" just yet, but I can see years down the line it could be seen as one of the finest examples of a crossover album. It's got great production, great lyrics, chemistry and guest spots.

I'd call it a MUST COP if you're a Nas fan, Damian Marley fan or just like good music.

Not since Kanye rocked the Alain Mikli "shutter shades" have I wanted a pair of sunglasses so badly.

These are the retrosuperfuture W sunglasses. Inspired by late 70s designs. With a all-in-one line frame with arms that don't even curve, keeping the theme of all square angles from front to back.

They are so limited I couldn't even find them on their store and was listed in limited quantities at retail stores in NY. Sucks living in LA, I know. But you can check out their other designs on their site, peep out retrosuperfuture.
